CardStar App Reviews

Great App!

Love this app. Had problems scanning initially but still easier than carrying the cards! Would like ability to take photos of cards not on the list for easier reference i.e. Tuesday Morning, Piece of Cake to name a few.

Note?

I see there is a note option so I could save the PIN for a reward card. I can type it in, but theres no option to save. Cmon man!

Almost great

Honestly this app is nice but it has some flaws. It starts slow, if you dont want to have it use wifi it doesnt show the logo of the card and the whole app acts weird. If it at least fixed it so it ran faster I would give this a better rating.

All Gone!

Updated the app and all my cards (30 - 40) disappeared. Sorry I cant give negative stars.

Fails At Basic Function

While the concept of CardStar is great (if you don’t mind a little data mining on your location), the iPhone display is incompatible with most grocery store laser scanners. Do not expect to be able to whisk your iPhone across the self checkout scanner. Smaller hand held scanners and pump scanners can read the bar code, but this will require an additional step during checkout from the cashier. As a general rule, if you see a line or beam from the barcode scanner, it is not compatible with reading from an iPhone display. If you see an area of red light, the scanner should be able to read the CardStar barcode.

Why on Earth would I want to use this?

[Edited to change rating from 4 stars to 1 star] I thought I was OK with the 5.0.1 update, but now I find that I’m locked out after using the app 5 times because I didn’t upgrade the account I never thought I had to create, and didn’t want to create as I didn’t want my info on some unknown server. Time to dump CardStar and look elsewhere. Too bad, because I’d used CardStar almost since I’ve had an iPhone (beginning of 2010). [Edited again to add: I have since found an app I prefer — mobile-pocket. I found that it includes info for a large number of US retailers; more than those included in the two or three other apps I’d checked out. And it does not require you to set up any cloud account.]

The Update is Horrid

I accepted the update after repeated prompting and ended up, like others it appears, losing my database. AND the new program keeps locking up. The prompting for accepting the update didnt give any clue of how major the change would be. And to make matters worse, there appears to be no way to enter the cloud database through my laptop, which would make it easier to add cards (actually repair). Overall a good app has been turned bad

Great app

Love to have all my discount cards in an easy to use app that makes my wallet thinner!

Cant access cards

It now forces me to use an account and will no longer show my cards. Useless. It never before required an account but now that it does, I lost all my cards.

Refused Forced Upgrade & Deleted

I dont want to use the cloud. I just want to use the app. It wont work unless you "upgrade" after loading all my cards…wasted my time. Deleted.

Great App

I have been using this app since it was available. Easy access to all my "key ring" cards. Didnt give it 5 stars because it sometimes crashes

Add Fingerprint Access

Adding fingerprint reader access to this app is appropriate rather than keying in a passcode. As others have mentioned, the ability to add a picture rather than the generic shopping cart is requested.

Slow loading, clunky UI, but no alternative for YMCA member cards

I use this app several times a week to gain access to my gym. I would much rather use Apple Wallet, but for some reason the Y chose CardStar, so Im stuck with it. CardStar loads (slowly) on the useless home screen, so I have to tap the cards tab, then my card, then maximize or the scanner wont read it. Too many taps for what should be a dead simple thing: showing a card to get into the gym.

Good app but a battery hog

This app is great, but its not the best and has some limitations. For one, it runs location services in the background and drains your battery like crazy! It needs to have a while app is in use option in location services like most apps. Why this was omitted when it doesnt use any features like Apple Wallet (Passbook) is beyond me. Secondly, it needs Apple Wallet integration. I want my passes to pop up when I come near my local store. The app doesnt do this, so it should have the option to export passes to Apple Wallet as a barcode (Apple now allows plain barcodes in Apple Wallet) with the option to add a favorite store or multiple store locations to the pass so it pops up accordingly. Thirdly, there are never any good coupons or any coupons at all at the stores I shop at within the app. Maybe integrate it with a coupon service or add coupons that I could easily find at many coupon sites I frequent, to the app.

Dont like

Ive been using this app for years & am finally switching. I hate that the app doesnt show cards in alphabetical order. Yes theres a search function, but its not as convenient when youre pressed for time at the cash register, especially when you have 30+ cards to search through. And why doesnt the 1st screen that pops up automatically show your cards? Another waste of time.

Just okay

Its a nice app for keeping all your loyalty cards without the cards. I like that you can just add card numbers as opposed to having to have predetermined cards. And its free Two issues for me: 1) I see no way to sort your cards. 2) cards do not sync between devices even though Ive signed in on both. Perhaps I need to sign out and sign back in, but who wants to do that?

Very nice to have but.....

It is wonderful not to have to carry around all the cards or tags with me to stores but so many stores will not use because there isnt a bar code. When you create a new store it only gives numbers Need more national chains on here. A bigger variety!

Sort

Why is there no ability to alphabetize cards or pin them in a preferred order? Seems like pretty basic functionality that should be included.

Just a teaser. Dont bother.

App immediately starts asking user to download a free upgrade. I didnt want or need the features in the upgrade but after a few days it timed out and would not work unless I upgraded. I gave up and deleted the app.

Mostly Convenient

*Used to be perfect. Fast and easy. Seems slower opening now. *Not liking the Cloud storage requirement. The Cloud is not always the answer... *Wish I could sort the cards in my list so most used show first. *Still a great idea and I love getting to retire the whomping key ring with dozens of rewards cards on it!
